Forestry Plantations Queensland Office
Introduction
The Forestry Plantations Queensland Office (FPQO) is a declared public service office under section 29(1) of the Public Service Act 1996.
FPQO was established on 1 May 2006 to support and complement the operations of Forestry Plantations Queensland (FPQ) also created on the same date. In creating FPQ, the Government sought to facilitate growth and greater prosperity for Queensland’s forest industry in an increasingly competitive market environment through enhanced commercial management of the State’s plantation forestry business).
FPQO provides services to FPQ to enable FPQ to focus more effectively on commercial management. These services include administrative and custodial responsibility for State plantation forests land and management of the State’s human resource capabilities. As the employer of public sector plantation forestry staff, FPQO manages the State’s expertise in plantation forestry management.
Created as a ‘corporation sole’ by the Forestry Plantations Queensland Act 2006, FPQ reports to two responsible Ministers - the Treasurer and Minister for Employment & Economic Development and the Minister for Primary Industries, Fisheries and Rural & Regional Queensland. FPQO also reports to these Ministers.

To enable FPQ to carry out its business operations, FPQO has a ‘work performance arrangement’ with FPQ. Under this arrangement, employees of the Office (former DPI Forestry employees) perform FPQ’s business responsibilities and deliver FPQ’s business outcomes in line with the corporation’s Operational Plan.
Future developments
FPQO will continue to manage public sector staff performing FPQ’s business responsibilities and delivering FPQ’s business outcomes in line with the work performance arrangement between the two entities. FPQO will manage, develop and deploy its staff as required in accordance with relevant public sector human resource directives and current enterprise agreements.
In addition, the State of Queensland, through FPQO has executed a Deed of Profit a Prendre with FPQ giving it access rights to State Plantation Forests in order to undertake commercial production and sale of natural resource products, such as plantation timber and other vegetative matter. FPQO will undertake the necessary administrative and custodial responsibilities for State Plantation Forests in line with the Deed of Profit a Prendre between FPQO and FPQ. br>
